TIPS

Maintain a Healthy Lawn
__________________________________________

  • Run your sprinkler system during the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Set sprinkler for short run times and repeat the cycle. To accommodate different sized lots, ECCV allows watering of 15 minutes per zone.
  • Water only when necessary. Spring and summer rains can provide some of the water your grass needs.
  • Brown spots can be treated best by using your hose and treating only that small area.
  • Avoid watering your lawns during days and times when it is windy.
  • Aerate your lawn. This will reduce the amount of water and fertilizer your lawn needs.
  • Using a layer of mulch around plants reduces evaporation and promotes plant growth.
  • Sharpen the blades on your lawn mower. Sharp blades mean a clean cut. Dull blades tear grass, and make it look brown. This may cause you to water more than necessary.

    Make Every Drop Count!

 Save Around the House
__________________________________________

  • Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than run the tap each time you want a cool glass of water.
  • Only run the dishwasher and the washing machine with a full load.
  • Avoid running the water when you shave and brush your teeth.
  • Take shorter showers.
  • Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues in the trash rather than in the toilet.
  • Use a broom to clean your garage and driveway instead of hosing it down with water.
