Sod Program

SOD AND SEED PLANTING PROGRAM

Sod and seed planting may begin on August 30, 2008. No sod or seed planting is allowed after May 31 to August 29, 2008.

Residents planting new sod may water every day for 14 days to establish the sod. Watering up to three times a day, five minutes per zone for pop-up heads, 15 minutes for rotors is acceptable. After the initial 14 days, residents must comply with ECCV's watering restrictions.

Residents planting new seed are also granted variances from current District restrictions. Seed may be watered every day for the first 14 days after planting, between 8 AM and 8 PM for three cycles per day. Those cycles should also consist of five minutes for pop-up spray heads and 15 minutes for rotors. For the third week after planting, residents may water one cycle per day. For the fourth week, watering must be limited to once every other day. After 28 days, District watering restrictions apply.

No special permits are required for this new planting program, but save your receipt in case you are cited for a violation in error.

Hints and Tips for a healthy lawn:

  • Amend your soil: Work products such as compost, aged manure or peat moss into the soil to a depth of 4 to 6inches with a Roto-Tiller or a rake. Amendments help soil retain water and nutrients for a healthy, more drought-tolerant lawn. Several types of soil amendments are available at garden or discount stores.
  • Pre-moisten your soil prior to planting/installing new grass.
  • Ask your landscape contractor about more drought-tolerant, hybrid grass breeds such as Reveille Turf.
  • Do your research: Read up on additional information on soil amendments, sod and drought-proofing your lawn. Check the following Web sites for more detailed information from the experts:
